Falcons Picked to Finish Fifth in PBC
Preseason Poll
AUGUSTA, Ga. –
The
University of Montevallo women’s soccer
team was selected to finish in fifth by
Peach Belt Conference coaches today
(Aug. 12). The Falcons received a vote
for third, two for fourth, three for
fifth, three for sixth and a single vote
for seventh. The Lady Cougars of
Columbus State University were picked to
finish first for the fourth year in a
row.

Falcon Soccer Travels to England
MONTEVALLO, Ala. –
The University of Montevallo men’s
soccer team is making a historic trip
for the program. For the first time
since the programs inception in 1994 the
team will travel overseas. The Falcons
are spending 10 days training on foreign
soil. Throughout the trip the team will
keep their fans updated with a blog
written by some of the players and

Balaam Named New Women’s Soccer Assistant
Coach at UM
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Stacey Balaam
has been named the new women’s soccer
assistant coach at the University of
Montevallo. Balaam becomes the first
full-time assistant coach in the
programs’ history.

Maloney Signs Professional Contract with Harrogate Town Football Club
HARROGATE, England –
Former
All-American soccer standout at the
University of Montevallo, Jonathan
Maloney (West Yorkshire, England)
has signed a professional contract with
Harrogate Town Football Club of the Blue
Square North League in Harrogate,
England. Maloney and his new teammates
wrapped up their preseason schedule
undefeated with a 2-0-4 record.

Pratt
Named New Head Golf Coach at UM
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Justin Pratt
has been named the new head golf coach
for the men’s and women’s golf programs
at the University of Montevallo. Pratt
becomes the first full-time golf coach
in the programs’ history.

ATHLETICS: Three Selected as Recipients of NCAA Degree-Completion Award
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –
Three
University of Montevallo
student-athletes have been selected to
receive the NCAA Division II
Degree-Completion Award. Former women’s
soccer standout Paula Radmard
along with volleyball standouts
Monika Tortorici and Lauren
Tortorici will receive the award for
the 2009-10 school year.

2009 Montevallo Athletics Hall of Fame Class
Announced
MONTEVALLO, Ala. –
The
University of Montevallo Athletics Hall
of Fame Committee, headed by Athletic
Director Jim Herlihy, has announced its
selections for the class of 2009. After
a three-year hiatus the committee
welcomes four former student-athletes
and one legendary coach into the Hall.
All five members of the class of 2009
will be inducted into the Hall of Fame
on Friday, October 9 on the campus of
the University of Montevallo.

VOLLEYBALL: Falcons Earn AVCA Team Academic Award for
2008-09
LEXINGTON, Ky. –
The
University of Montevallo volleyball team
under the direction of head coach
Katie O’Brien was awarded the AVCA
Team Academic Award for the 2008-09
season. The award, which was initiated
in the 1992-93 academic year, honors
collegiate and high school volleyball
teams that displayed excellence in the
classroom during the school year by
maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative
team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

BASEBALL: Montevallo’s Garcia Set to Play in Valley Baseball League’s
All-Star Game
WINCHESTER, Va. –
Upcoming senior Kevin Garcia (Vega
Baja, Puerto Rico/Gulf Coast C.C.)
of the University of Montevallo baseball
team has been named to the Valley
Baseball League’s North All-Star Team.
He was selected at first base despite
playing third base, shortstop and
catcher for the Montevallo in 2009. The
game is set to take place on Sunday,
July 12 at 7:30 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Women’s Basketball Announces 2009-10 Recruiting Class
MONTEVALLO, Ala. –
University of Montevallo women’s
basketball head coach Brittney Ezell
announced the signing of four
recruits for the 2009-10 season. Alex
Sanabria (Miami, Fla./University of West
Virginia), Amanda Scott (Cullman,
Ala./UAB), Alex Strickland
(Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) and
Trena Moore-Smith (Charlotte,
N.C./West Charlotte) will all join
the Falcons this fall in their first
season in the Peach Belt Conference.

Falcons Place D-II Best Four on NGCA
All-American Scholar Team
CORAL
SPRINGS, Fla.
–
The University of Montevallo golf teams
placed four on the National Golf Coaches
Association All-American Scholar Golf
Team. University of Montevallo golfers
Aaron
Ebert (Huron, Ohio),
Britney Martin (Fishers, Indiana),
Rachel Shaner (Madison, Alabama)
and
Tripp Cash (Troy, Alabama)
led the way for the University as
Montevallo was the top school in
Division II with four golfers on the
list. Eight schools placed three golfers
on the prestigious list just shy of
Montevallo’s mark.
