The Department of English and Foreign Languages contributes to the University of Montevallo’s liberal arts curriculum through its programs in literatures, languages, writing, and philosophy. 

The Department’s collaborative, multi-disciplinary nature facilitates instruction that lays the foundation for life-long learning and an ongoing appreciation for cultural diversity. 

In this spirit, the Department believes that its students leave the University of Montevallo with a more nuanced, empathetic, and enquiring view of the world, and are thus better prepared to contribute to their communities as articulate, informed, and socially conscious members of society, regardless of what career path they choose to follow.
