How do I connect my laptop to the wireless network?
Wireless access is available throughout the library. To use this service you must first connect to the network, then register your laptop with Computer Services.
The following instructions show how to connect a laptop PC
running Windows XP. For other computers and operating systems, consult Computer
Services. To connect to the UM wireless network follow these steps.
1) Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon in the system tray

2) Choose the button that reads View Wireless Networks

3) Choose the link on the left-hand side that reads Change advanced settings

4) Choose the tab that reads Wireless Networks

5) If you do not see UMNET in the Preferred networks list, choose Add… If the UMNET network is already listed, click on Properties

6) Edit your UMNET properties as seen in the graphic below. The network name or SSID is UMNET. The Network Authentication should be Open and the Data encryption should be Disabled. Click OK. Your computer should now recognize the network.

You will now register your computer with Computer Services. After accessing the network the only web site you will be able to access is the University's Network Registration site (NETREG).
