TRANSFER GUIDE FOR A DEGREE PROGRAM IN
MUSIC

Students transferring from Alabama community colleges may complete Areas I-V of the STARS Guide for Music and have some of those courses count towards completion of the major.  Transfer students seeking to select courses that most closely match degree programs in Music at Montevallo should choose the following Alabama community college course options from Areas I-V of the AGSC Guide.  A maximum of sixty-four hours of credit will transfer from a two-year college.

Area I - Written Composition (6 semester hours)

ENG 101 & 102 - Written Composition I & II

Area II - Humanities and Fine Arts (15 semester hours)

Students must complete a 6 semester hour sequence in either literature (AREA II) or history (AREA IV).

Select at least 3 semester hours in literature from the approved list below (no more than 6 hours of literature in AREA II):

ENG 251 - American Literature I
ENG 252 - American Literature II
ENG 261 - English Literature I
ENG 271 - English Literature II
ENG 271 - World Literature I
ENG 272 - World Literature II

Select either
SPH 106 or SPH 107

Select the remaining semester hours for AREA II from the approved list below. Total hours in AREA II should equal 15 semester hours.
Select at least 3 hours of Fine Art (but not more than 9 hours).
Select at least 3 hours of Humanities (but not more than 9 hours).

Students must complete a 6 semester hour sequence in either literature (AREA II) or history (AREA IV).

Select at least 3 semester hours in history from the approved list below (no more that 6 hours of history for AREA IV:

A minimum grade of C is required for all required music courses.
Advanced standing in music from other accredited institutions is determined by audition in the primary performance area and appropriate examinations in music theory, ear training, sight singing, music history, and functional piano.
